July 31, 2008 250 pastors, commanders, directors and leaders attended the six PCDL meeting held during the past two weeks. They received updates on the new Sparks material as well as HomeBase, T&T Book 3 and Project Joseph. Game principles and motivation ideas were also shared.

Tom & Sandi Hofmann graduate from Awana Missionary Candidate School. The Hofmann's have faithfully served the High Plains area for over 20 years. They first got involved by hauling equipment to events for the Hattan's. Through the years they were given more and more responsibilities, and recently have cared for most of the event ministry. It is with extreme delight that we welcome them as official Awana Missionaries.

Steve & Debbie were involved in a motorcycle accident near Rock Port, MO. Steve suffered a broken collarbone, punctured lung and "road rash" on his right arm. Debbie's injuries included a punctured lung, torn kidney, two fractured discs and two broken legs. They are out the hospital and getting better each day. Thanks for praying.
June 2, 2008 Lucretia Harkness returns home from her work in DaNang, VietNam. She has been in DaNang with a mission agency since August 2007 teaching English as a Foreign Language to elementary age children. We are excited to have her back.

May 18, 2008 Mary Bunge joins her husband in Glory. Mary and her husband, Don, were the first full-time Awana Missionaries. When they started in 1966, they cared for the entire ministry west of the Mississippi. Back then no one knew what Awana was or who Awana Missionaries were; they truly were pioneers and we owe an immense amount to them.
May 12-16, 2008

Rick & Fairy Hattan and Tom & Sandi Hofmann attended an Awana Missionary Conference at Awana headquarters in Streamwood, IL. Besides the encouragement they received, they were updated on the new Sparks material, T&T Book 3, Trek training, Commander College and Rorheim Institute. They will be sharing some of this information in newsletter and PCDL meetings this summer.

Dora Harkness graduates from Arcadia High School. Family and friends had a wonderful day celebrating her achievement. Dora will be heading to Waukesha, Wisconsin in mid-August to begin studying at New Tribes Bible Institute.

Titus Hattan graduates from Trinity International University. He plans to teach English in South Korea next year.

April 1, 2008 111 teams from 53 churches competed at the High Plains AwanaGames this spring. 1550 kids participated.
April 1, 2008 Congratulations to Eddra Ritta! She won our March web contest and will receive an Awana attaché bag.
March 1, 2008 63 churches participated in Bible Quiz this year in the High Plains area. 410 children demonstrated their knowledge of the Scriptures which they learned at Awana.
March 1, 2008 Paul and Janet Harkness are enjoying the opportunities they've had to minister to the 32 Clubs assigned to them in Nebraska and South Dakota as Club Care Missionaries. Through Club visits, telephone calls, and meeting with pastors and commanders, they have been seeking to encourage folks in their work in Awana to reach boys and girls with the gospel of Christ and train them to serve Him.

Tom & Sandi Hofmann and Steve & Debbie Flagg attended Awana Missionary Candidate School in Chicago. The Hofmann's are now official Awana Missionaries and will continue to oversee the events of the High Plains area. Steve & Debbie Flagg are Awana Missionary appointees and are raising support so they can help with the club care in the eastern part of our area. Please pray for them as they raise their support.

January 24-26, 2008
On January 24th, thirty commanders and staff converged on Omaha for a concentrated two and a half days of training at Commander College 101. The training was designed to help them develop an Awana ministry that equips their church, leaders and parents to raise kids to know, love and serve Christ. CC 101 focused on the commander's role as advocate, shepherd, administrator, communicator and leader. They learned how to integrate Awana into their church's ministries, manage and motivate their volunteers, avoid common administrative traps, communicate effectively in all kinds of situations and grow a healthy, life-changing club ministry. They went away energized and prepared to take their club ministry to a new level.

November 14, 2007 We said good-bye to a dear friend this past month. Hortencia Mendoza Ba, wife of Julio Ba Gonzalez, went to be with the Lord November 14. She had an illness the past five years which doctors never could completely diagnose. Julio served as an Awana Missionary and Coordinator for the Latin American ministries for a number of years. Pray for Julio and their children, Keren and Caleb.
November 9-15, 2007 Rick & Fairy attend the Awana Missionary Conference at Asilomar Conference Center in central California.
October 30 - November 2, 2007 For the third year, Paul Harkness taught at the Word of Life Bible Institute near Berlin, Germany. This one year discipleship training of WOL continues to grow. Fifteen students are now enrolled in the Institute. Paul taught the course on personal evangelism, You Can Tell It, from EvanTell. Institute leadership shared that the students who have previously taken the course are making an impact with the gospel of Christ in Germany.

November 1, 2007 370 Attend the Awana / CEF Children's Ministry Confereces this fall. Four conferences were held across the area in the cities of Papillion, Gering, North Platte, and Aurora. The leaders expressed appreciation for the help, ideas, and encouragement they received at the conferences. Checkout the highlights on our webpage.
October 28, 2007 Paul Harkness travels to Germany, for a week, to teach personal evangelism to Word of Life Bible Institute students.
October 25, 2007 Nine new clubs have started this fall in the High Plains area. We have also added two new counties: Pierce and Harlan. We now have 161 clubs in 67 counties.

October 1, 2007 Steve and Debbie Flagg, Ministry Team members in the Omaha area, have applied to become Awana Missionaries. Pray for them as they go through the application process.
September 15, 2007 The Omaha Commander College 101 dates and location are announced. The College will be January 24-27 at the Double Tree Hotel on 72nd St and I-80. More details are available on the event section of our webpage.
September 29, 2007 11 Bible Quiz and 4 AwanaGame venues are announced for the High Plains 2008 event season. For more details check the event section of the webpage.
September 8, 2007 237 leaders are trained at 12 Basic Training sessions this summer and fall. These training sessions equip leaders with a fundamental knowledge of how to use the "tool" of Awana, and gives them a burden and vision to reach children and their families.

August 30, 2007 Rick and Fairy take their youngest child, Celeste, to college in British Columbia.
August 23, 2007 Paul & Janet Harkness have surpassed the 10% marking their support raising. This first level was reached by pledges from personal contacts. They will now begin talking with Awana churches about joining their support team. Pray for God's provision, direction and success in this important aspect of their becoming missionaries.
August 22, 2007 Paul and Janet's daughter, Lucretia, arrived in Vietnam. She will be teaching English as a foreign language with a missions organization.
August 2, 2007 Steve Flagg attends Commander College 101 and will be trained to organize a regional CC101 in Omaha in January.
